Step 3: Membership – Committing to local congregation

Church membership is a vital step in the life of a believer. It reflects a commitment to a local body of believers, uniting in worship, discipleship, and mission. Scripture emphasizes the importance of being part of a church community, where we are built up in love and equipped for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11–16). Membership is not just a formal affiliation; it is a covenant relationship between believers and their local church, rooted in mutual love, accountability, and service.

The church is described in Scripture as the body of Christ, with each member uniquely gifted by the Holy Spirit to serve and edify others (1 Corinthians 12:12–27). Just as a body cannot function without its parts, neither can a Christian thrive spiritually apart from the church. Membership signifies that we are not lone believers but are joined to Christ and His people, sharing in the joys and responsibilities of living as His disciples.

Membership also aligns with God’s design for sanctification. As members of the church, we grow in holiness through the preaching of the Word, the administration of the sacraments, and the fellowship of believers. God uses the church to shape us into the image of Christ, convicting us of sin, encouraging us in trials, and strengthening our faith. Hebrews 10:24–25 reminds us, “Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another.”

At FBC Springville, becoming a member is a joyful step of commitment. It signifies your dedication to Christ and His people, affirming your place in His body. Our membership classes provide an opportunity to learn about the church’s beliefs, mission, and values while helping you discern how your gifts can be used to serve others.

If you are ready to take this step or have questions about church membership, we invite you to reach out to one of our pastors or leaders. Together, let us walk in faith, united as one body under Christ, for the glory of God and the advancement of His kingdom.
