God’s Incommunicable Attributes

God’s incommunicable attributes are those characteristics that belong to Him alone, setting Him apart from all of creation. These attributes define His absolute uniqueness and transcendence, reminding us that He is unlike anything in the created order. As we explore these attributes, we gain a greater understanding of His majesty, sovereignty, and infinite nature.

God’s Aseity (Self-Existence)

God is entirely self-existent, meaning He does not depend on anything or anyone for His being. He has life in Himself and is the source of all life. Unlike creatures who rely on external factors for existence, God simply is. This truth is found in Exodus 3:14 when God declares, “I AM WHO I AM.” This statement reveals that His existence is independent and eternal.
 The aseity of God assures us that He is not subject to change or outside influence. He is the uncaused cause, the source of all things. This also means that God does not need us but chooses to involve us in His divine plan. His self-sufficiency brings comfort, knowing that our reliance is on an unshakable foundation.

God’s Eternality (No Beginning or End)

God exists outside of time, having no beginning or end. Psalm 90:2 states, “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” Time is a part of creation, but God is its Creator and is not bound by it. He sees the past, present, and future simultaneously.
 This truth provides comfort in uncertain times, reminding us that God is always present and unchanging. His plans are eternal, and His promises are certain. Our lives may be brief, but they are held in the hands of an eternal God who guides us toward eternity with Him.

God’s Immutability (Unchanging Nature)

Unlike human emotions and thoughts that shift over time, God remains constant in His nature, purposes, and promises. Malachi 3:6 says, “For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” His immutability means that His love, justice, and holiness are always perfect and unwavering.
 This attribute is crucial to our faith because it ensures that God’s character does not shift based on circumstances. When He makes a promise, He keeps it. When He declares His love, it remains steadfast. In a world of instability, we can find peace in a God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

God’s Omnipresence (Everywhere at All Times)

God is present in all places at all times. There is no place where He is absent. Psalm 139:7-10 beautifully expresses this: “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.” Unlike humans, who are bound by space and time, God is fully present in every part of creation simultaneously. This truth is both convicting and comforting—convicting because we cannot hide from Him, and comforting because we are never alone. No matter where we are, God is near to guide, protect, and sustain us.

God’s Omniscience (All-Knowing)

God possesses complete and perfect knowledge of all things, past, present, and future. He does not learn or discover anything because He already knows everything. Isaiah 46:9-10 declares, “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done.”
 His omniscience means that nothing catches Him by surprise. He knows our deepest struggles, our thoughts, and our unspoken prayers. This should encourage us to trust Him fully, knowing that His wisdom is perfect. While we may not always understand His ways, we can be assured that He sees the full picture.

God’s Omnipotence (All-Powerful)

God’s power has no limits. He can accomplish all that He wills, and nothing can thwart His purposes. Job 42:2 states, “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” His power is displayed in creation, in His miracles, and most significantly, in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The omnipotence of God means that He is fully capable of saving, sustaining, and protecting His people. No force of evil, no difficulty, and no trial can stand against Him. When we feel weak and powerless, we can take refuge in the One who holds all power in His hands.

God’s Sovereignty (Supreme Rule Over All Things)

God rules over all creation with absolute authority. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. Nothing happens outside of His control. Daniel 4:35 affirms, “All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and He does according to His will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay His hand or say to Him, ‘What have you done?’”
 This attribute assures us that God is not a passive observer but an active ruler over all things. His sovereignty means that even when life feels chaotic, He is working out His purposes for our good and His glory. We can trust that no plan of His will fail.
